Soon we will all be tutoring in a the real-life Writing Center. At first I was a little nervous about it, but then I realized it's just another learning opportunity and we also have the chance to use the skills we've learned to help someone else out with their paper. I think we all have a strong enough foundation from what we have learned and practiced in class to be successful peer tutors.

Similar to Lindsay I was also very nervous about doing an actual live tutoring session, and I still am. So many questions run through my head as I think about what the session will be like, will know how to answer the questions I’m asked? Will I remember how to start the session? Will I remember to let the writer do the talking? Will I remember to present questions to the writer so they can solve their own problems or will I simply tell them what I think they should do? I know these are probably the normal questions everyone has before their first session, but it still worries me.
ReplyDeleteI second everyone's posts above. Even though I worked as a tutor at my High School's Writing Center, I'm still nervous about working with a Siena student tomorrow. I suppose I'm nervous because unlike my WC in high school, we all went through a lot of training and researching to get to where we are today. Unlike how I was relaxed in my HS WC (where we only had a few training sessions), I feel like there's more pressure to be "perfect" since we've been so well prepared. Obviously, being "perfect" is impossible, but I still feel nervous about completely messing up the session.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else. I'm so nervous about my first actual session. I just wish we had more time to do mock sessions in class. I'm sure once we get started I'll know what to do or say (I hope) but it's kind of one of those things you need to practice, not just talk about. I hope it'll go well, as I'm sure everyone's will. Fingers crossed :)
ReplyDeleteI think that we are all so well prepared and we dont even know it. I think having done 3 observations has put us in a great place for being able to be a consultant. Everyone will do great!
